Custom Gems let you build your own Gemini assistants — but they can go quiet, ignore their instructions, or fail to load. Most fixes take under a minute.

- Re-open the Gem from the side panel, not an old link.
- Edit the Gem and re-save its instructions.
- Check the underlying Gemini model isn’t rate-limited.
- Clear cache / update the app.
1. Reload the Gem properly
- Open Gemini and select the Gem from the left panel.
- Start a fresh conversation inside it (old threads can get stuck).
- Avoid bookmarked URLs that may point to a stale session.
2. Re-save the Gem’s instructions
If a Gem ignores its rules, its instructions may have failed to save.
- Open Edit Gem.
- Re-paste your instructions clearly, one rule per line.
- Save and start a new chat to test.
3. Check for model rate limits
Gems run on Gemini’s models. If you’ve hit a usage cap, the Gem stops responding.

5. Confirm sharing & access

If a Gem stays broken, duplicate it or create a fresh one and paste your instructions in. A clean Gem clears corrupt state.
